Three people had lost their lives in separate incidents yesterday in Maligawatta and Gokarella police areas, the police said.
They said a 44-year-old man was beaten to death by a group of people using an iron rod at the Jayantha Weerasekera Mawatha in the Maligawatte police area last evening.
The victim died on admission to the Colombo National Hospital (CNH). Police investigations were initiated following an alert to 118 emergency centre.
The victim was a resident of the Maligawatta area. Police investigations revealed that a long standing grudge led to the killing. The suspects involved in this crime have been identified, and further investigations are underway to arrest them.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old woman was stabbed to death with a sharp object last night at Wegama in the Gokarella police area, the police said.
It was reported that the husband of the woman killed her with a sharp weapon and assailant was also found dead with serious cut wounds.
The body of the husband was found in the vicinity of his wife who was killed. Gokarella police are conducting investigations. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

It is very pathetic. The people themselves should understand the value of the human lives. Besides some murders might happen due to the instant provocation. It is duty of the police is to look in to these incidents deeply. In order to bring justice for the victims

Now Sri Lanka has become a killing field due to drug addiction and yet no one take responsibility for bringing all these drug ? I wonder why do we spend money on government; police and judiciary if people take laws like this into their hand .. Politicians could engage in all kind of mafia works like this with support of the government...then why do we need this government that doesn't take action
