Growing dissension between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will result in a snap general election within six months, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) spokesman and MP S.M. Marikkar said today.

“We have noticed that there are disagreements between the President and the SLPP. This was evident even yesterday when some of the SLPP seniors boycotted the meeting with the President. They said they did not participate as the invitation was not made through SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam. We also see some SLPP members complaining that the President is trying for a one-man show. This will end up with political dramas,” the MP said.

“The Rajapaksa family may be interested in bringing MP Namal Rajapaksa to the forefront. They will make him crossover to the opposition with others and then pave the way for him to become the Leader of the Opposition.  President Wickremesinghe will be isolated and will not have a parliamentary majority. This will compel him to hold a general election. A general election would become an eventuality within six months,” the MP added.

“Mark my words, as my prediction will come true,” he also said.

He also said President Wickremeisnghe will not be able to carry on without a team.

“The President cannot go along with ministry secretaries for long,” Marikkar said. (Yohan Perera)

President knows what to do and how to deal with this..He went through many political turmoils and this is nothing for him ..he is an executive president and he is not scared of all those SLPP MPs .many of them have learned politics from Ranil and you too have learned politics from him. Prediction one ..Ranil will dissolve parliament now ..that would not be in the interest of many SLPP MPs because they want to have their pension secured...so they can't go against him at all. Prediction two..to defer it for next year. it is possible that many MPs will support him to get their pension . politics in Sri Lanka is a Politics of selfishness...

If his team members do not cooperate with him, he will use any means to make them toe the line. If a person who holds a high position feels that his position is in jeopardy, his sole motive for his actions will be for self preservation

@lk politics Your highly commented president was not elected by the people and would have never if it is not for aragalya. Did he ever won an election that tells you something.

Day dreaming every day, nothing productive - 2. These guys out of parliament have absolutely nothing to do than predict elections round the corner.

No further elections under Ranil with the echoed slogan, no money, so no elections. So, it is essential to act, accordingly without going after a mirage of a possibility of a Presidential election. Because, it is to console by not holding the local government election which is overdue. It is simple logic.
