The Catholic Church is not involved in insulting Buddhist monks and other members of clergy and will not associate with people who insult them, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said yesterday.
We don’t condone insulting the clergy particularly Buddhist monks. Some say Catholics are behind the repeated insulting of monks over social media but I would like to say that the church is not behind such campaigns,” Cardinal Ranjith said speaking during a ceremony held at St. Anthony’s Church Kochchikade.
“We will not condone insulting monks and will not associate with people who do such things.
One should remember that Sri Lanka ‘s culture is associated with Buddhism.
“It seem that justice cannot be expected from the incumbent President and the government, “he added.
The Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Brian Udaigwe said Sri Lanka had the full blessings of Pope Francis in its efforts to mete out justice for those who were affected by the attacks. “Justice cannot be meted out through anger,” he said quoting former President of USA Barack Obama. (Yohan Perera)

Cardinal might talk big about Easter Bombing, but he is failing for the faith. 500 years ago Protestant movement started by Martin Luther because there was too much corruption in Europe, now similar seems to be happening for the church here. I was born in Catholic family, and go to church, but what the Cardinal says goes against the core of personal values and faith of being a Catholic. Cardinal has failed the first commandment. I will join a Protestant or reformed church, or any other church with puts our savior as first, and above all cultural aspects regardless of the nation.

Cannot trust him. If he is serious about our Sinhala culture being foremost, and that means Buddhism, he is welcome to pay homage to the Dalada wahanse. Till then, I expect these are just tricks or lip service pushing for greater influence. As a Buddhist I will not take seriously anyone who does not venerate the Dalada wahanse.

I think the Cardinal should just keep his mouth shut. He is trying to split the body of christ with his politically motivated remarks. Where was he when Catholics and priests were killed, churches, schools and orphanages run by the church were bombed during the war. He was more keen on protecting his master from HR inquiries.

Sir, you will be levelled allegation after allegation if you condemn Ranil Wickremasinghe, that is what seemed diverting the cause against yourself to make mum on the issue whereby Ranil lovers have wanted trying to stay in power without election. We are aware that your Rev. has never, in any way, commented in degraded manner on any religious leaders including Monks. A cheapest political group is aiming to divert your Rev. cause of actions to divert the mission to gain political adantage by shutting your Rev. pure attempt.

Fearfull slip of the toung in a brave protest march, to protect all of them in same sinful state who are only worldly beings :Pharisy type Priests, pruthagjana Monks, Pastors of Luther doctrin who wanted to abolish ten commandments and eliminate corruption, plus their friendly Politicians in power abusing Buddhism. Cannot hide or escape from divine punishment imminent for their corruptions. How can all of these religious reps belonged to the four religious faiths maintain friendly fellowships/relationships with murderous politicians and seek justice?

Agreed but at the expense of making the flock in turn being insulted by the legendary, insolent remorseful remarks entailing U-turns and reversing direction, confusing them to vote back into power those denounced of 'BAD DEEDS AND LARCENY/MURDER!!!?? Perhaps not deemed as bad as insulting religious Monks!!!??? This world has different Yardsticks!!!?? What a Malleable world we live!!!???
