The Supreme Court today held that Baqian Law Group Lanka Pvt. Ltd, a Chinese law firm is not entitled in law to engage in any legal professional work within Sri Lanka.

Attorney at Law Nayantha Wijesundara had filed this Fundamental Rights petition challenging the decision of the Registrar General of Companies to incorporate a limited liability company which purports to provide legal services in Sri Lanka.

The Supreme Court further held that hold that the Registrar General of Companies has acted in violation of the law of the country when he had incorporated Baqian Law Group as a limited liability company under the Companies Act No. 07 of 2007 as itsprimary objective is illegal. Thank you, very good decision. They are quietly spreading their tentacles to squeeze the life out of Sri Lanka. When we beg we don’t think about our sovereignty or the future of the nation. India is no saint either, just look at what they are targeting. Any person with an ounce of brain can see ingenuity of their approach and our leaders are completely clueless and dumb.

Our leaders only concern is how much commission they will be getting. They are not worried about the general public or the country and we keep on electing them year after year for the last 70 years

When people cautioned the then government (2009-10) “Debt Trap” beware, those who made call to that effect, were spontaneously, classified as Outcasts, Retards, Unpatriotic, even Diaspora Terrorists, belonging to LTTE rump – attempting TO STOP DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY being jealous of NEW VISTAS!! Now, we have attained the MIRAGE of “Sawbhakiya Dekma”, “Vistas of Prosperity” and “Splendour in Lifestyle” after enforced starving or 1 meal instead of the usual 3 that we had ever since born, BECOME EMANCIPATED AND ENLIGHTENED, able to discern shortcomings of ‘COMMERCIAL RATE INTEREST CHINESE LOANS’, DEVOID OF GRACE PERIOD, commence repayment!!?? WHAT WONDERFUL WORLD!!??

What madness are you talking about... It is just a company which offers services, Legal services. That have to go by the laws of Sri Lankan anyway, can't do like Indian law can they. Firm will would have succeeded if people believe it's services are good or better than provided elsewhere. Less different providers for legal services means lawyer charges higher prices.

Thank you Supreme Court and Attorney Nayantha Wijesundara. Well said and Job well done!

If it is illegal, just LEGALIZE Chinese contractors who have come here to develop our country unlike India pressurizing Sri Lanka with the support of the US to create TAMIL EELAM in United Sri Lanka to separate the BUDDHIST country. Do not play for America's Agenda to succeed.

Law firms are set up by China, India, USA or any other countries are to protect their business and Commercial Interests. It is better that our Courts understand that and provide necessary supports rather than talking about entitlements. Those who know about International Trade

We don’t want third rate Chinese or Indian Lawyers in our country. These may be big countries but on a one to one level we are better and smarter than them.

    Punchi Wednesday, 19 October 2022 02:28 AM

A law will be promulgated soon by our lackeys to China allowing Chinese Law firms legal status in Chinese protectorate Lanka. This is a prelude to establish further territorial ambitions also Chinese kindergarten children are so nice they are sending their pocket money to feed our undernourished school children

    DPerera Wednesday, 19 October 2022 04:13 AM

This is funny. If the lawyers of Baqian company are qualified and registered to practice in Sri Lanka they should be able to practice within the country

    黄 Huáng Albert Wednesday, 19 October 2022 06:48 AM

Colombo judiciary is wrong on their ruling and prejudice in the decision that has proved legal inequality. We're the Chinese commercial business forum that evenhandedly support your economy. Commercial business loans, fertilizer imports and real estate security for the people of Sri Lanka.

We are best in the world! Wednesday, 19 October 2022 07:33 AM

Will our future generation have a piece of land to live? Rajapasses competed to sell out anything and every thing to anyone and everyone, as long as they benefit. To hell with the nation! But we are used to living in the gutters. Whoever lays his hands on wealth takes it. This has become a man eating man society. Have we learnt anything?

    Jude Wednesday, 19 October 2022 08:47 AM

However if the said law firm retain the services of Lankan lawyers then it's a different situation!!

    murthy Wednesday, 19 October 2022 08:57 AM

When will the supreme court ban the Chinese engaged in fishing/aquaculture-sea cucumbers, in the SL seas in the North

    alex Wednesday, 19 October 2022 08:58 AM

MS during his term permitted the Chinese to engage in retail trade in SL against the constitution. These retail trade still continues. Hope the supreme court will look in to this also

Wrong, Wrong wrong Wednesday, 19 October 2022 10:09 AM

If workers at the firm have the right to work in Sri Lanka, and are certified as lawyers what is the problem? If the lawyers in the firm are working on international transactions, with foreign law, like China law to do business there the firm could've helped Sri Lankan businessman who want to transaction with China even. I don't know who this Nayantha Wijesundara, but if evennarrow minded BASL aren't complaining I expect Wijesundara is just trying to protect his patch of business from competition.

    Punchi Wednesday, 19 October 2022 12:19 PM

黄 Huáng Albert is saying "real estate security" what I think is being said is that China will ensure Lankan territorial integrity. This is false they have already taken our territory and impinged on our sovereign actions by holding the sword of cooperation on our loans over our head

    hoodwinker Wednesday, 19 October 2022 07:24 PM

Another joke, how are these firms get the registration done with a chinese name intact. Register General's office needs an urgent mental check
