The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) has unanimously decided to go for a massive trade union action soon if the Railways Department fails to provide proper solutions to many issues faced by the station masters for a long time.
The Station Masters have discussed their issues with the former and present railway general managers. However, the executive committee has taken this decision on the basis of avoiding the relevant matters instead of resolving them.
This issue has been discussed with the former Minister of Transport on several occasions and with the new Minister of Transport, the SLRSMU said.
Although the relevant ministers have instructed the railway administration to resolve the issues expeditiously, the union said.
It is clear that the GMR and some officials of the administration intend to discredit the government by directing the station masters into a trade union struggle by not taking action by the department, they said.
Due to the lack of proper resolution of the issues, the SLRSMU had to take appropriate action, the union said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
