Cabinet spokesman, Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that a probe will be initiated on the alleged visit to Japan by State Ministers Thenuka Widanagamage, D.V.Chanaka and Roshan Ranasinghe, to witness the Olympic games.

Responding to a journalist at today’s weekly Cabinet news briefing, the Media Minister said the probe will look into the purpose of the visit to Japan by three State Ministers in the entourage of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa who was officially participating in the Olympic games festival and also the alleged failure to display the Sri Lankan National flag at the opening ceremony.

A journalist questioned the rationale of the merry making visit of the three State Ministers together with Minister Rajapaksa at a time when Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had requested to minimise government expenses as much as possible.

“My understanding is that they have been sponsored by a certain NGO and the government has not spent a rupee on their tour. However,I agree that an inquiry should be launched to reveal the truth,” Minister Rambukwella added.(Sandun A Jayasekera)

You and your MPs have been milking the government coffers for long time . Now you are taking some austerity measures. Now enough damage had been done by your mismanagement. Now leave the office with respect before you and your cohort do more damage to this country . If you are really loyal citizens of this country you would do it .

A public officer or politician accepting a gift of this nature an magnitude seems improper. This is tantamount to the provision and receipt of an inducement or bribe. There is no way recipients could be viewed as not conflicted when matters relating to the donors and their related parties are concerned. Someone who has exercised such a lack of judgement needs to be moved on and possible tried in line with the bribery laws of the land. As for the Sports Minister's attendance at the games, how could the cost be justified when we seem to not have been able to even provide official uniforms to brand to our athletes as Sri Lanka's representatives to the game. In the circumstances it seems an extravagant self indulgence at the State's expense ... what a shame.

When a minister leaves the country he/she should get the prior approval of the president. These 3 ministers must have left the country with the approval of the president as they are part of a team headed by his own nephew, Namal. Now, Rambukwella is lying as he knows we all forget this matter after a week and I challenge Rambukwella to publish the report of the inquiry.

Another apology would be tendered . All is well gets well and another tamasha could be planned. These guys would be given a heroes welcome at airport to show they have majority in parliament and are above everyone else.
