The US will not provide support for IMF funds unless there is rule of law, independent central bank and no corruption. If all of this is implemented it would be the death knell to our great scam of Sinhala Buddhist Supremacy that also allows murderers and killers to become rulers and also live with impunity among us

    Shan Friday, 05 August 2022 11:45 AM

US does not care about any of these, it is responsible for killing a million people in Iraq. US only has regional interests like getting MCC and SOFA.

Lucky Wije Friday, 05 August 2022 11:48 AM

Yes, bow to the supreme leader, the USA, which topple governments it does not like, deem who is a terrorist based on its own and western based agenda, invade other countries on the pretext of lies with impunity, and discriminate its own black community.

Jerathi Peterpalan Friday, 05 August 2022 08:57 AM

Yes, we need an election within two months to select a president with mandate. Not a man selected by a group of crooks! Please help.

    Sam Friday, 05 August 2022 11:38 AM

Can you sell your land and house in order find the election instead US debt trap. If it is so we will agree.

Dr Singham Friday, 05 August 2022 08:59 AM

Americans would not give a “ rats arse” about Sri Lanka, they are only interested to protect their own and Europe’s interests in Sri Lanka. Their point of contact in South Asia is India to do the “dirty work” work them.

US Citizen Friday, 05 August 2022 10:45 AM

Good luck then! See you later alligator in a while crocodile.

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 05 August 2022 11:51 AM

The reason is Sri Lanka and her leaders also do not give a "rats arse" for their country, they are only patriotic towards robbing and personal benefits, that is why we are in this status. Fact is if you do not know to keep your house in order, neighbors are bound to take advantage. Its not used blaming neighbors later for your original failure.

Jerathi Peterpalan- elections cannot be held at the whims and fancy of any particular party or individual. Elections are held as per constitutional provisions. According to which you need to wait for one more year to hold an election. Elections alone will not solve any of the problems and it will only be another financial burden on the cash strapped govt. Besides, what change do you expect from an election, it will be another one from the same 225 lot.

    Iwazaru Friday, 05 August 2022 09:33 AM

Oops! Sri Lanka is on a long haul for IMF bailout from this statement. One of the IMF conditions is corruption and that is a violation of human or my rights.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Friday, 05 August 2022 09:44 AM

Mr. Blinkan, help SriLanka atleast dollars or fuel. We don't want comments, but action.

    Jef Friday, 05 August 2022 09:49 AM

Sri Lanka need to learn from past ..look at Bangladesh doing so we'll purely due to excellent management and staff levels along honest political circle that work hard for the country and the nation to build prosperity all foriegn partners are very happy with progress that have shown huge Future growth where some countries that are in mess due to political mismanagement and corruption if sri Lanka to rebuild we need tough political Reforms if not we will never improve the countries image and nation's prosperity

Bee bee Friday, 05 August 2022 10:16 AM

Blinken is probably extremely happy about the systematic demolishing of Sri Lankan economy by his puppets. US is only interested in using Sri Lanka as a Cold War proxy with China.

    D Trump Friday, 05 August 2022 11:12 AM

Get lost Anthony. USA (or Divided States of America) must not interfere with the internal affairs of Sri Lanka. With your current attitude and corrupted practices you will never 'Make America Great Again'.

Ranjith Perera Friday, 05 August 2022 11:51 AM

Any economic reforms need to be concurrent with political and social reforms to ensue rule of law ,pluralism with inclusivity and renewed commitment to democratic values with an election at the earliest available date. All political parties must address this issues in a road map with commitment to prevent the country drifting into precipitous fall.

James warren Friday, 05 August 2022 12:05 PM

Mr. Blienken I know better than you , about Sri Lanka. Only solution to Sri Lanka’s issues are to have an election right away. You people look the other way and let this country go down the drain. You people don’t talk about the HR violation happening in Sri Lanka. I am a Sri Lankan American living in US, you should be ashamed to support this back door regime.

Present Government in Sri Lanka is without any foundation. The President Ranil Wickramasinghe does not have a mandate. He has been elected as the President by Parliamentarians, which is against the public openion. Out of the Parliamentarians , 85% are rouges. Therefore Country must go for a General Election immediately.

Justice of peace Friday, 05 August 2022 02:52 PM

@ Dr Singham - you are living in a world of your own. India is a well matured democratic country with 28 states in one sub continent. Are you aware of it. Unless we get two states in one country we will never be able to coexist in harmony right up to the dooms day.

Mrs Balachandran, Canads Friday, 05 August 2022 05:02 PM

Justice For Peace, “ India is a well matured democracy” for creating Tamil terror groups in neighbouring Sri Lanka that resulted in thirty year war and killed well over 100 thousand Tamils and made Tamils to abandon their land of birth permanently to Canada and Europe. “ India is a well matured democracy “ for sending it’s Army to Jaffna and raping and killing thousands of Tamil Civilians.
