President Ranil Wickremesinghe should think of its future generations before worrying about the world's perception on Sri Lanka, an SJB candidate contesting the local government election said today.
SJB candidate for the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council Chamith Wijesundara who was referring to recent remarks made by President Wickremesinghe that the world might have a negative perception of Sri Lanka if it fails to celebrate independence said Sri Lanka should not waste funds thinking of the global perception.
"Sri Lanka should first think of the future generations and save funds," Wijesundara said.
He said Sri Lanka was pushed into an economic crisis last year just after spending lavishly on an independence day celebration.
"Sri Lanka is still spending lavishly to maintain the cabinet as well," he added. (Yohan Perera)

To put it bluntly. Sri Lanka is a country where politicians and govt employees help themselves at the cost of tax payers. This will never change as both sectors are very powerful and the general public can basically do nothing but keep paying for the expenses of politicians and government employees.

Instead of taxing the working class, IMF should insist Govt. to reduce expenditure. Start with cancelling the lavish $200M Independence day celebrations

It looks as if the IMF and other International Financial Institutions do not bother about the waste and corruption prevalent in a country, but lay down other conditions, when considering any assistance sought from them ?
