Sri Lanka face an uphill task to secure direct qualification to next year’s 50-over World Cup, with Afghanistan confirming their spot following Sunday’s washed out second ODI in Pallekele.

The Afghans and the hosts took five Super League points each, keeping the visitors in seventh place in the table and guaranteeing them at least eighth position.

Hosts India and the seven highest-ranked other teams earn direct entry to the 2023 tournament.

Sri Lanka are now among four teams scrapping for the last remaining direct entry spot -- two-time champions West Indies, Ireland and South Africa, the other teams in contention.

Sri Lanka will be hoping for a win in the final ODI of the Afghanistan tour on Wednesday to boost their chances and tie the current three-match series.

Afghanistan won the first ODI by 60 runs on Friday.

As well as India, so far defending champions England, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh and Pakistan have also secured direct entry into next year's tournament.

The cut-off date for the final Super League standings is on May 31, 2023.

The remaining nations, who do not gain direct qualification, will have to play in the qualifying matches along with five associate teams for the final two spots in the 10-team World Cup.

Comparative new-comers to International Cricket, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are ranked above the senior Sri Lanka. Even Ireland is now above Sri Lanka. What a Comedy ?

Our men are destined to be at an end of a tail and this is not a surprise. Lack of discipline and mockery made by the players and the administrators all put together, this has become a private group of people just having fun with their families with their overseas tours, We are the idiots to expect anything from this substandard unprofessional personnel.

You are correct. Both players and SLC administrators became highly corrupted due to excessive commercialization of this game.

This is the third successive time Sri Lanka will fail to qualify directly to make it to the Super 8. Sri Lanka always likes to come through the back door like Ranil who took more than 40 years ro realize his dream. Just hang on . They say failures are the pillars of sucess.

Get Yehil Sangakara’s Devine help to see Sri Lanka is going to get the final spot in the 2023 World Cup. She can arrange match fixing through her god.

This is the script of team that has no discipline and no focus and only intrested in women, patrying, social media fame, and gold chains around their necks.

The ranking system a flawed process , however it's a blessing in disguise for SL team coz just before playing the big boys, SL team get to play couple of real practice games!! Yeah!!
