A Buddhist monk found guilty to sharing a female teacher's morphed images on WhatsApp was today sentenced to one month of rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe further ordered the accused to pay a fine of Rs.5000 for the charges filed under the Computer Crimes Act.

The CID told the court that the complainant, a 30-year-old female teacher had conducted tuition classes via Zoom technology during the pandemic and became popular among students in the area.

The victim alleged that the accused had shared fake nude images via WhatsApp after inquiring "May I share these images with other students".

Following the investigations, the CID was able to trace the suspect, a 15-year-old monk attached to a temple in Embilipitiya.

Wow, the 2600 year old culture is getting more and more vibrant now a days-murder for a car, 5 star hotel stay, rape and now WhatsApp

Instead of focusing these issues some of these monks want to dictate what dress a female teacher should wear to school

This is what happens when 15 year old boys are made monks. They should be allowed to do what boys at their age do. Otherwise when they grow up there will be other unwanted social problems-rape, drugs etc.

Are we seen the end of Buddhism practiced as a religion in Sri Lanka, thanks to the Rajapaksas. The Buddhist philosophy will continue to flourish in the civilized world.

That is what happens when you take a 14 years old child away from his parents, friends, childhood. The youth in Sri Lanka is completely messed up because of religion, taboos, no proper sexeducation, no mixed schools, male dominated society etc.

Should be expelled from the temple. Also should send to rehabilitation camp for a year. When giving this kind of low level punishments, people will not learn.

In Sri Lanka Buddhist monk hood is the sanctuary and last recourse for criminals, perverts, pedophiles, rapists, thief’s, rejects etc. the can pursue their nefarious activities with the knowledge that the legal system will only slap them on their wrists if caught. The bad karma of their actions has resulted in moral and financial bankruptcy being visited on our country

This is due to the inhuman acts of the Buddhist clergy in forcing boys into the temples as young as 11 years old. This robs these novices of their entire childhood and youth. Normal development is thus prevented and permanent psychological damage occurs. Furthermore, these children are sexually abused in the temples by horny monks. Not this 15 years old boy, but the Crooks in Orange responsible for him should be punished.

Only 15 years old and 5 years RI for this offense. While it is a terrible thing to do courts must understand the punishment cannot outweigh the offense. This is what happens in temples. This kid was probably given up to priesthood as a young boy due to the family's poverty. Very normal storyline. It is mostly likely that he has never been given a chance to interact with a female. As an educator and parent, I believe he should be reformed and educated about how to use technology the right way. No children should be given to a temple for the wrong reaons and without their understanding. Hope this boy heals and finds the right path and the "true light".

SLR 5000 fine what??? should be at least 5 million, this what happens when you have child monks. sri lankan should change. in the present era there's no respect for monks. guilty monk should be stripped off the monk status.

The judge who had given the punishment should think what he would do if this happened with his own son.

It is common knowledge and an age old practice to surrender children to be used by monks. When they grow up to be seniors, they too follow the same path. Is the Catholic Church any different? They are all the same. Disgusting!

Religious dignitaries should set an example to the followers, instead of indulging in prohibited and degrading Lord Buddha's preaching.

To be honest I am not a Buddhist. In my personal opinion Monkhood, Priesthood etc., had pushed to non productive levels in their respective communities. There may be some commercial merchandise benefits but the Socio, Economic harm is more than the benefits. Do not misunderstand me and blame others. I am writing this as a Socio and Economic expertise. .

So much for celibacy vows of this pathetic creature. Has he no shame to bring down the esteem of this female teacher who should be kept in the status of a Guru by her students? Disrobe this individual to save the name of 2600 year old Buddhist culture.

The beginning of the end, of arguably the most practical and sensible of doctrines out there to practice. Like everything else here, this too has gone to shit. The entire operating system, needs a hard reset with a virus guard to keep the filth out.

A person has to be mentally matured to discard his desires. Wil this young kid think of committing this crime, if he had stayed with his parents in poverty? So, it is the temple environment that enabled this act. Where does the blame lie? Start the change at the Temple/Church level ! Can you?

Specially these days our young Buddhist monks are up to sex, they only use the ropes to cover themselves for education purpose, but they commit the worst sins, I know ....
