Seven out of nine Sri Lankans arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the special camp for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees at Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli over their alleged involvement in drugs and arms smuggling to revive the LTTE, were issued Interpol red notices, police said yesterday.
Although the reports over the arrest of nine Sri Lankans were true, the Sri Lankan Police had not yet been officially informed by the Indian authority over the arrest, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
Those arrested included C Gunashekharan alias Guna and Pushparajah alias Pookutti Kanna. They were working in close association with Haji Salim, a drug and arms supplier based in Pakistan.
The arrests were made in connection with a case registered suo-motu by the agency on July 8 and were followed up with raids at the premises of the accused and suspects in Chennai, Thiruppur, Chengalpattu and Thiruchirapally districts in the state.
Besides Gunashekharan and Pushparajah, the others arrested are Mohammad Asmin, Alahapperumage Sunil Gamini Fonseka Kottaghamini alias Sunil Gamini alias Neelakandan, Stanly Kennady Fernando, Ladiya Chandrasena, Dhanukka Roshan, Vella Suranka alias Gamage Suranga Pradeep alias Surang and Thilipan alias Dileepan.
“India has not yet officially informed Sri Lankan Police about the arrest. But the arrest is true. If they have committed any wrongdoing in India, the Indian government will present them to the court. Bringing them to Sri Lanka should be coordinated through bilateral and diplomatic discussion between the two countries. Also, we are seeking the Attorney General’s advice in this regard,” SSP Thalduwa said. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

If they are brought to Sri Lanka they could well be pardoned as there are many ministers and ex-ministers involved in drug and arms smuggling...... especially since the Norwegian is back in play.

Contrary to what people believe Interpol is Not a law enforcement agency . As such it has no power to arrest , detain , or question anyone. It was setup by a group of countries as central communication centre for all the law enforcement officials from diffetent countries to communicate quickly and securely. Red Notice is not legally binding and no country is obliged to respond to the notice. It is just a marketing strategy to add the word “red” to the word notice to make it look powerful. Only national police forces and national investigative agencies are equipped with the law enforcement power. Now coming back to the incident , Indians are trying to recreate the LTTE “From It’s Grave” to make us believe that the “ Dead Tigers “ are walking again. Our response should be to start immediate discussions with China and America with the intention to sign a military alliance with anyone or both .

Why the thumbnail photo of these people is not published on a bigger scale and not in the detailed report? At least we would know if one of them is our neighbour.

Indians are ready to go any inhuman methods to be selfish at the expense of its neighbours and at the end it doesn’t have any true friends. Just picked up illegal immigrants and drug gangs from the detention centre and say they tried to revive LTTE. Who would believe when those picked up are from all three communities of SL. LTTE is done and dusted. Don’t scare us and we know you well India.

You guys are so funny... BTW i missing sisi'ra and jude here. They always have some utterly nonsense to comment. The statement here coming from your police officer in srilanka. How can you possibly ignore the interpols notice anyway.?! Unless they have some valid proof, they won't play games. Still International agencies having protocols and standard mechanism. Thankyou.
