A separate rest area will be constructed for local and foreign tourists coming to Yala to rest during the day.

Around 400 vehicles with local and foreign tourists enter the park daily to watch wild animals. So far, these local and foreign tourists did not have a suitable place to rest during the day while visiting the forested areas.

It is not allowed to wander in the forest, especially for two hours from noon to 2:00 p.m. So far, the vehicles have been parked at various places during that time cause nuisance to the wild animals.

The Wildlife and Forest Resources Minister Mahinda Amaraweera advised its Director General to build a leisure complex to provide facilities for local and foreign tourists to participate in educational programs, food and beverages.

This rest area has also been allocated in the Pattanangala Block B section of the Yala Forest, and the necessary facilities will be provided to park at least 200 vehicles there.

This rest area has been built in such a way that it does not harm the wild animals and flora, and the food and beverages needed by the tourists as well as the programs to inform the tourists about the wild animals and flora of Sri Lanka are to be started.

The ministry said Rs. 56 million would be spent by the Wildlife Department for this purpose. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

It is a must to build such facilities. Also, look in to improve and make wash room facilities at major bus stands such as Colombo Pettah, Galle, Kandy, Jaffana to that of Highway rest area. Also wash room facilities at all major tourists attractions.

Caution guy's - The reason could be because we don't want any Sri Lankans with an "Ape" like attitude mixing around foreign tourists. We all know too well what our ministers, their Son's and their henchmen are capable of in the cities. Can you imagine what they will do on much more familiar surroundings...

We used to go to Yala on every visit to Sri Lanka. However after having to wait two hours in the middle of the day doing nothing, decided not to visit again. How does stopping visitors moving around from 12-2 make any sense? This is the time with least visitors and lowest animal activity. You are just penalizing real wildlife lovers who are the ones who would go for a full day safari. People do not visit the park to rest but to see animals, so dont waste money building facilities that are irrelevant!
