Steps were being taken to reduce the number of public sector employees in all government institutions and a self-retirement mechanism would be introduced for that effect, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawradena said today.

He told the weekly Cabinet briefing that inefficient public sector employees would be removed through this self-retirement mechanism.

The Minister said the decision was taken in accordance with the instructions given by the Treasury to all Ministries to curtail their expenses in all departments and added that all the Ministry Secretaries are bound to adhere to the circulars issued by the Treasury.

He said no new recruitment would be made in the government service and pointed out that any vacancies in a particular state institution would be filled by the existing cadre of the government sector institutions.

"For example, steps are being taken to recruit 29,000 new teachers. They would be recruited from the exciting cadre of the government sector through an examination," he said.( Ajith Siriwardana)

Stop all additional employment and make use of the potentialities of all full time employees for instance don't employ any tempt or visit staff in university...you don't know how to make use of your work force and most them don't work but take salaries... quality of our working force is very poor and weak and productivity is very low ...2009 we have 9 lakhs of workers in public sector now it is 16 lakhs ...where do we give salary for them and the productivity has gone down but the work force has gone up ? Mismanagement and malpractice..now all pay the price for this ..cut salary of some non working academics in our university..many don't work but get big salary ..you don't know how to monitor them ..Heads/Deans/ VCs are sleeping and getting big salaries

Corruption everywhere what solutions are there Thursday, 02 February 2023 06:05 AM

Gota even put in Thera to high position in university. Too many persons who are utterly unsuited are in high up posts here. Biggest inefficiency is the aging politicians, and until there is limit on how long they can stay, or are forced into retirement problem with bloated military and government sector will be ongoing.

Do it asap with a plan. Reduce as much as possible and automate most of the services. For example why a birth certificate copy is required when taking a pp or driving license when already someone has a nic. Also they can double check using a system. See these are the places of waste of money of the country and time. Also when a fine is issued for a traffic violation see the number of papers wasted. This is the money that can be used for something useful right. Automate is the solution. Also if getting of new driving license cards is a problem. Then they should make the card locally. Until then extend the existing license by 5 years until a solution is found. Also in new licenses issued try to extend the validity for about 25years until a solution is found.

The next government will make sure their supporters get new posts and reverse the savings as it is the usual practice in SriLanka.

Does this mean some Ministers and all State Ministers all will be retired?

Not a good idea, if implemented there won’t be anyone to work in our public sector

Way to save money Wednesday, 01 February 2023 07:41 AM

"29,000 new teachers would be recruited from the existing cadre of the government sector through an examination." Are you going transfer the inefficient public sector employees to teaching jobs? Future generation is doomed. Why not start to remove all dead wood in Parliament?

Will only those who want to vote for other party be inefficient Wednesday, 01 February 2023 10:35 AM

Government can get managers to find voting intentions of employee. All not voting SLPP at LG polls can be deemed inefficient. All who came in by way of government MP can be decided as efficient even if their work is inefficient. Lot of political scams ahead.

This facility should be extended to Politicians in the legislature who are above 6o years of age.

Too many over confidence well presenting people who lack ability Thursday, 02 February 2023 06:03 AM

A lot of SLFP people like Maithripala think they are much more capable than they are. A lot of government workers are as over-confident and as negligent with their work as he is. Here it is all about showing up looking good, all about social looks, nothing about actually doing things.
