Eleven cannabis growing chenas were raided during an operation carried out in Hambegamuwa, Sooriyawewa and Thanamalwila areas by the Special Task Force of Police (STF).
STF said the operations were carried out with the help of drone cameras.
Two suspects were also arrested during the raid and is was learnt that the two suspects arrested were members of the gang operated by underworld gangster 'Sooriyawewa Ratnaweera'.
About 800kg of marijuana were seized during the raid and were handed over to the State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC).
The STF said about 554ks of the contraband were also handed over to the SPC on numerous occasions in the past.

In a back drop where marijuana is legalised in certain parts of USA it is worth to consider an export market for cannabis/lagalise cannabis in Sri Lnka.
