A group of heads of local authorities held by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and informed him that they were ready for local polls at the appropriate time, a party official said.
The meeting took place on Wednesday evening.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam who accompanied them to the meeting told Daily Mirror that the heads of the local authorities requested the president to ensure that public life is not disrupted over issues such as fuel shortages during the election period.
Mr. Kariyawasam said the local government heads were ready for elections but any disruption to normal life during election times would hinder their electoral prospects.
They also requested the president to rescind the restrictions imposed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the welfare and social projects carried out by the local authorities.
State Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Janaka Wakkumbura also attended the meeting.(Kelum Bandara)

Requesting the president not to hold elections when public life is disrupted? That will never happen in Sri Lanka, never again. Incidentally, we have decided not to allow any of these wretched pohottuwa and elephant guys into our compound when they canvass for votes. I believe in the learning ability and intelligence of the Sri Lankans and I am convinced that they will defeat the current political leadership under Ranil in the local elections ! Provided that the elections are carried out correctly and without manipulation! Only if this government and the parliamentarians who support it are voted out is there a great chance of introducing a real political new beginning with responsible representatives of all ethnic groups who express the will of the people and their interests and needs!!!

The SLPP local government authorities are trying to do complete corruption when the government is lacking funds by asking to do 'welfare and social projects'. These projects will be done completely politically to either provide for friends, or to get votes. Not at all for what's required.

Reduction of members of local bodies announced to restrict the victory of SLPP members who are holding majority Islandwide, anyway this can not be prevented the victory of the SLPP once again in a mass scale. SLPP is a people party that won the hearts and minds of the general public, it can not be defeated by the US CONSPIRACY.
