Sri Lanka would not get any international support such as IMF bailout and GSP+ facility if the government attempts to postpone the Local Government elections, National People's Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath said today.

He told Parliament that the European Union has already raised concerns on allowing GSP+ facility to Sri Lanka. The MP said the postponement of LG polls was a serious threat to democracy and people to exercise their franchise.

He said the government postponed the LG polls by one more year previously as the government deemed the situation at that time was not favourable to the government and added that present situation was even more worse for the government.

MP Herath said the situation would go from bad to worse as the electricity tarrifs have also been increased.

"The eletricity tariffs hike will result in rise in chain reaction," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

At the same time, if people like you with archaic Marxist ideology come to power, no rational nation would extend their support, financially or otherwise.

Well said. NPP is not the solutions. They only want more problems to further their own political ambitions

I M F should impose as a condition to hold the already declared provincial council election to consider the loan.

Well funding agencies will not want to step in and fund us if we continue to spend money that we don't have. Fiscal responsibility is a basic ingredient for them. Let's be honest, postponing local government election for a short period is not earth shattering. Rather printing money and showing the world that the nation is not prioritising economic recovery above all else would be extremely detrimental.

Government should ban this Marxist party from universities and politics. They are working for and funded by foreign nations. Imagine a strike in a SL port where does ships go to? Aragalaya put a black mark for SL and no body want to invest in SL. They protest against everything. Investors will not invest in a country like that. Big projects will never come to SL. We will struggle to settle our debt to China, India…Who will be benefited? They are funded by them, to make our country never stand up. They work for them. Pathetic group.
