In general any country joining an international organisation is set to gain both the tangible and reputation benefits. But membership in the Commonwealth is utter disgrace as it is an affirmation that for 150 long years being “totally powerless in our own land with all our institutions and value systems completely destroyed, all our own heroes and rulers brutally killed, while being at the mercy of a powerful and ruthless foreign invader from a faraway land” was actually a good thing to have happened to us all.

Establishing a university to study problems regarding Climate change is good. But this topic had been thoroughly examined and studied by lot of countries. What is important is to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. We should tackle the problem there.

I do not know why our President got so excited. Climate change is a business for the rich and those who promote travel alone in planes disregarding the harm caused by the planes that carry one important person. Further there are conflicting views on this subject and nothing has been proved as positive or negative

Mr President your citizens want System Change and quite correctly you are are preparing for a greater global contribution towards Climate Change! Likewise if you can propose greater corporation between SAARC nations on trade, and unite India and China to work on trade corporation, Asia will be the greatest trading block! The hub for world progress and half the worlds population will benefit. But first see that you get your own country back in shape specially employment creation and food sustainability as priorities.

Climate change university ? As usual the sayings of an underdeveloped brain to deflect attention from prevailing starvation and impoverishment. The world rankings of Sri Lankan universities are around 1800. Most degrees are by rote learning and this method obtained PhD Buddhist monk is made chancellor. Climate change course or degree is more realistic but no world renown scholar will want to teach in any country with university ranked 1800 and above. Next new university dissecting the contribution of the mahawamsa and Lankan Buddhism to modern science and civilisation ?

Give politicians a good education not to steal public funds and how to respect the law and order!! who cares of the climate - it has been destroyed by the politicians - not by the poor people of SL!! Is Erik Solheim contributing his efforts at no cost to the government ?. This is a clear evidence that Ranil is a complete mutt who has no clue where to start his anti climate change campaign. Stop cutting trees and encroaching wilderness. Get a proper automobile emission test standards. Stop importation of substandard fuels. Since Nov 2016 we have had no more than 56 days of continuous dry weather. At this rate no tourist will come to Sri Lanka with all day rain and floods.

Now you have solved the following main problems: Agriculture, fertiliser and water issues 1. Hunger, Petrol 2. Education for school and university children 3. Health problems, medicines 4. Dollar issue (government may have plenty of stolen dollars invested overseas by now) 5. plenty of money to attend world funerals People are happy and praising the mothers of all SL politicians since 1948.As the country is self-sufficient now, this is the good time to solve the environmental issues in the country by opening a new university!
