It is unfortunate that there is no one to take responsibility for the Easter Sunday attack though four years have gone since the mayhem, a prominent Buddhist monk said yesterday.

Speaking during a ceremony held to mark the 4th anniversary of the Easter Sunday attack Sangha Nayaka of Southern Province Venerable Omalpe Sobitha Thera said the failure to find out those who are responsible for the Easter Sunday attack is a violation of Buddhist Principles.“buddha preached that it is the responsibility of the rulers to see that justice is meted out to them,” he said.

Sri Lanka is the only country in the globe where rulers steal public funds openly, “a prominent Buddhist monk said yesterday. Episodes with regard to the Xpress Pearl incident had proved that rulers of this country steal public funds openly.

“Sri Lanka is also the only country where rulers are lethargic when it comes to meting out justice. This is evident when one considers how rulers dealt with the probes on Easter Sunday attacks,” he said.

Moulavi Abdul Rahman Hashim in his speech alleged that some devotees who were going to participate in Ifthar prayers at Galle face were prevented while even Catholics who were marching from Negombo to Colombo were prevented from singing hymns.

“It looks like the authorities seem to think that people living in this country including Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus are violent people. It seems that this is why they are trying to bring in draconian laws to suppress rights,” he added. (Yohan Perera)

Didn't those religious fanatics take responsibility for the attacks? Taking responsibility for the attacks is different from Taking responsibility for the failure to take sufficient actions to prevent attacks. Dont forget that intelligence units were disbanded and given low profile by Yahapalana government based on foreign pressures ( status which the Catholic Church was supporting ) Then any Tom and Jeremy could fo such attacks.

The country's authorities know very well that despite the high potential for violence in the country, the majority of the population is not violent. The new draconian laws only serve to protect Ranil and his criminal and corrupt regime, which is no longer wanted by the people. How far have we come when hymns are not even allowed to be sung at a Catholic protest march. Perhaps Ranil is sufficiently historically literate to know that such marches were the beginning of the end of the communist German Democratic Republic.

Sobitha Thera spoke agressively against the aragalaya, now he has no vast public to support him. He ruined the freedoms by his loud mouthed support for the past President and denigration of Aragalaya and the country cannot move forward while those like him have listen to. Once they are old and deceased another aragalaya can commence, might take a decade, but better wait it out. The youth already know of the Thera being against freedom and freedoms of speech, so will be glad to wait to bring about total revolution in the years to come.

How will the justice be meted out when the SC delivered the verdict that Ranil Wickremasinghe was aquited of alleged Easter Sunday incident? a person responsible for the incident has been freed legally by the influence of political order. Can you expect any JUSTICE anymore?

Country like US too took very long time to bring justice to people died in 9/11 attacks. My humble request from all these clergymen please refrain in playing the roles of the judges, the jurors and the police and have faith in investigating teams and judiciary .
