Samagi Jana Blawegaya (SJB) is expected to boycott the ceremonial opening of Parliament on Wednesday (8).

Deputy Chief Opposition Whip Nalin Bandara Jayamaha told Daily Mirror that MPs of his party will boycott the opening and the presentation of the policy statement by President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday.

“We have also decided to boycott the two-day debate on the President’s policy statement which is to be held on Thursday and Friday. SJB decided to boycott these events as we are merely spectators in these exercises,” he said.

MP Eran Wickramaratne also said there was a discussion to this effect and the final decision will be circulated to all party members shortly.

Meanwhile, the accusation made by the opposition including the SJB that a resolution seeking the stoppage of allocating funds for the local government election was dismissed by State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalpitiya.

“We are only concerned about the economic crisis and not the local government election. The finance minister issues circulars pertaining to state expenditure on long term basis and no directives are issued targeting elections,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

    Poor taste

SJB does not have the capacity to govern this country. Why can’t they attend parliament, listen to the policy statement and express their views. Criticize, condemn, engage in a discussion. That’s why we have a parliament.

But, the government must be of elected members of the public. It is the issue for not serving a purpose. Capacity and the people's will are two different to one another. Obviously, not possible to understand.

    Good decision. Well done.

SJB cannot govern a betel leaf shop, let alone a country. These petty actions speak loads about their capacity. Their statements show how hollow they are. Now begging people to attend their discussion on 14th.

Never ever boycott democratic parliamentary presentations, debates, bills etc even if you feel you have no part to play and being over run. If you boycott it will be seen the policies, bills etc were passed without opposition. Democratic parliament is for debates even the parliamentarians are not elected but appointed. You have to change the constitution if you need 100% to be always elected members and not appointees. SJB PLEASE DO NOT BOYCOTT. DONT BE CHILDISH.

Without boycotting, it is better to be present and fight for the rights like JVP.

Best thing is Sajith should join hands with Anura Kumara and form a powerful opposition to combat Ranil Rajapakshe's Government.

@ Dr. S M Weerakoon; At a recent protest, the JVP did not involve in a Joint opposition protest. They want to go solo. The results will get exposed on the 10th March. Fine without any arsons.
