At least eight police officers and two civilians were injured following a clash when residents at Aththanayala in Weeraketiya obstructed police from carrying out their duties.
Police said a group of officers of the Weerakatiya Police had checked several people who were staying on the road in the Aththanayala while they were returning from a illicit liquor raid at Gonadeniya in Weeraketiya.
An argument with police officers by a group of men during the search had reportedly turned into a clash as they obstructed the officers' duty.
Several residents in the Aththanayala area gathered at the location in which later police had deployed additional officers including STF to control the situation.
Police said during the clash a man had bitten both ears of a sub-inspector of Police. He was later admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.
The other officers and civilian injured in the clash were admitted to the Tangalle Hospital.
Police had arrested at least six civilians over the incident and the Weeraketiya Police are conducting further investigations.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

This shouldn't have happened in the vicinity of the kingdom of Mahinda Rajapaksa. King must be very angry that his men were assaulted by his people. We will hear more about this from Prince Namal soon

This is a democratic country and there is no emergency law. Anyone can go anywhere and anyone can stand or walk in any place as they wish and the police have no authority to question anyone under any circumstances. This is what happens when the police cross their line and try to be damn too much. Well done civilians for standing for the freedom and the rights of the people. It is high time that Mr. Wickramaratne (the political boot licker and puppet) understands the perimeters of the duties of his department. Very soon he will be thrown out by the people if he continues his atrocities towards to people.

These are the type of uncivilized people we need to bring down to Aragalaya at GGG to throw out the 226 looters and shysters. Being nice to the politicos and the police, those days are over.
