While urging the government to repeal the Prevention of Terrorrism Act (PTA), the National People's Power today called on the government to release the three student activists who were detained under the PTA.

NPP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that the three students including the IUSF Convener were detained under the PTA without producing in court as there was no evidence against them.

He said most of the Aragalaya activists who were arrested earlier were released by the court as there were no evidence against them.

"The government is now using the PTA to detain them without producing them in court as there is no evidence against them. We urge the government to repeal the PTA and release the detained student activists," he said.

Mr. Silva said it was surprising that President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who advocated to repeal the PTA during the Yahapalanaya Government, is now using the same Act to take revenge.

"This is an anti-democratic and anti-human Act. It should be repealed immediately,' he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Mr. Education Minister its better open all Universities immediately, since by closing them, these people have nothing to do but create Aragalya.

Tilvin is not loud enough. Remember, to be loud, you must summon at least a good 500,000 to town to sign all the slogans together as the Aragalaya folks did. Then the deaf politicians will hear the message

I happened to read the PTA recently. Its provisions are unimaginably undemocratic and inhumane. It was passed as a law during RW's uncle JR's time as a temporary meausre. Im sure as a member of that government RW also put up his hand up for the bill. It is hilarious to think that RW now as a president, would repeal it, knowing very well how his uncle used it to crush his political opponents. PTA can detain anyone without bail for two whole years for a small thing like Facebook post. Even if Sajith Premedasa becomes next president he wont repeal it sonce he also knows very well how well his dad used it. We are all doomed for a foceable future. Over to you NPP!
