A rare black leopard was captured on camera by local and foreign tourists inside the Yala National Park today.
Safari jeep driver “KG” told Daily Mirror he saw the animal cross from one side of the path to the other, inside the park at around 8.45 this morning.
He said that the animal was first seen on a rock and it then crossed the pathway to the other side with its mother.
“We didn’t see the father of the animal. It was seen crossing with its mother,” the safari jeep driver said.
KG said that he has been conducting safari tours for around 30 years in Yala and this was the first time he spotted a black leopard. (Easwaran Rutnam)

We saw it on Tuesday. Couldn't capture cos it was crossing the road in a flash... So lucky to see it with an English couple...

Superb!!! Should go that way as soon as possible . On a lighter note, RW really has his stars aligned because Saji boy will be absent from Parliament for a month and a half !!!

Surely no one will ever see the leopard again, because the jeep drivers in Yala are very rude, drive too fast, are making sexist remarks to white women and above all : they don't know anything about wildlife. They should learn from the excellent safarirangers in Kenya and South Africa.

If no one sees the leopard again it will be because leopards are elusive, not because of the jeep drivers. We did two safaris in Yala in the past couple of days and the drivers were nothing but kind and knowledgeable (we were a group of mostly white women). I'm sorry you had a bad experience but if the drivers were rude to you I can imagine there was a reason for it. The only reason I'm replying to you is because Sri Lankans have been nothing short of incredible the two weeks I've been here for and your comment is unnecessary

Spot on! They have a very bad reputation. And they are not only rude to white women.

Please don't advertise this - it will be captured and killed by one of the many who don't care about our fauna/flora. Let it live

C Lee: the drivers in Yala have a bad reputation. Everyone in Sri Lanka knows. Also among nonewhites. To be honest I don't believe your comment. I don't think you are from N Z.

#C Lee: never justify sexist remarks to women. .
