Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake who is serving a prison sentence for contempt of court, told  MP Harin Fernando that he expects to be freed in the new year to initiate his higher studies.

Mr. Ramanayake had said this when MP Fernando paid him a Christmas visit to the prison over the weekend.

"Ranjan told me that he would be glad if he is freed in 2022 to engage in  higher studies. He was grateful to everyone who is calling for his freedom. I told him that I would be pleased to wilfully sacrifice my Parliamentry seat for him to be sworn in as an MP if he is released," Mr. Fernando said.

"He has been sent to prison for mistakenly mentioning one word referring to judges," the MP added.(Yohan Perera)

Ranjan is an innocent victim of circumstances and an entertaining Politician. His pardoning is a merit on the government.
