Former World Cup winning cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga lauded the decision made by Sri Lanka’s Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne to stand down from the role, stating that it was a decision that no previous captain had made.
Karunaratne on Monday said that he had asked the national cricket selectors to relinquish him from the captaincy, so that a new captain can take over from the start of the next World Test Championship cycle.
“I applaud Dimuth for stepping aside. It is a good decision since it will help Sri Lanka groom another captain with the next World Test Championship final in mind,” Ranatunga said.
“I have not seen any former cricket captains make a decision like this in the past, and I admire him for that,” Ranatunga added. (Susil Premalal)

It was an unselfish decision and one where he put the team interest first and personal interest second. Well decided mate and all the very best to you. You are a champion bloke.

Ranatunga's comments are not important as he is involved in politics. SLC has to appoint a new boy with leadership qualities and who can perform at the highest level.
