President Ranil Wickremesinghe has convened an all-party conference next week (26) where he is set to take a decision on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, Minister Jeevan Thondaman said.

He told reporters after his return from India that a delegation headed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe discussed matters concerning the upcountry Tamil community including the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and that discussions ended on a positive note.

"I was a part of the delegation to India headed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. During the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implementation of the 13th Amendment, MoUs on energy and economic development, and development of the Indian-origin Tamil community in Sri Lanka were discussed," he said.

He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to grant Rs. 3000 million for the betterment of the Indian-orgin Tamil community in Sri Lanka and added that steps would be taken to utilize these funds for the upliftment of education and the health sector for the upcountry Tamils.

The Minister also said work on the proposed university in the Nuwara Eliya district would be expedited with the Indian funds. (Ajith Siriwardana)

He does more than fake patriots Rajapakshas. Ranil's position is well known. Had he won 2005 presidential election he would have gladly given LTTE the autonomy. Rajapakshas defeated LTTE by scarifying lives of mainly rural poor youth and then they forgot about them and became Colombians. Mismanagement and corruption became rule and now after bankrupting the economy the division of the country is back on the table. Once 13A implemented, NE will skyrocket to development because NE people are hardworking and less corrupt and have strong diaspora support. This will lead to natural partition from the South where the people are corrupt and lazy. 13A is the beginning of the end for SL unitary status. After bankrupting the country, the Colombians where Ranil is a staunch member is going to do anything the outside powers demand to save their back and also to get loans

The Tamils and North and East in the past supported for separate state. Ponnambalam Ramanathan a Tamil of that group who was instrumental to have their Sri Lankan citizenship striped, and fought to prevent upcountry Tamil getting citizenship all the time he was alive. Tamils of Indian origins, and the Indian Tamils have never shown the wicked, terrorist, separatist activity and contribute massively to Sri Lankan economy especially in Tea and Rubber estates. They deserve anything to uplift from the caste racism that Ponnambalam and Jaffna Tamils wanted them to be entrapped in.

Jeevan Thondaman mentioned about the funding going to provided by India for the upcountry Tamils. I wonder how much of the funds will actually assist for the poor families, and how much of that ends up with various officials or those associated with the MP instead of going to the needy.

Why is Nurawa Eliya an ideal location for university for all Sri Lankans? It is far away from major population who live on the west coast. Another University nearer to Colombo would be better for more Sri Lankans. The Nuwara Eliya will only be close to people living in nearer Districts when it comes to bus travel to there. What fool foreign student would want to go to a university in less populated area. Even in Sri Lanka universities in less populated areas need less entrance marks, and overseas universities outside of major metropolitan areas are looked down. And overseas even in the same subject in differently measured, and in a few minutes anyone overseas would see a Nuwara Eliya university is a Timbuktu university - a low entry, low capable student university. In other words it is like the difference between big school in metro area,another Game Iskole.

3000 Million rupees is not much for Education and Health. With there being about 1 million upcountry Tamils, that's only about 3000 rupee per person. India allowed for upcountry Tamil's to resume their Sri Lankan citizenship, and if upcountry Tamil's had never been stripped of it, then maybe 13A would never have happened even.

Economic growth with 13, not the plus ver. wich used to be the Mahinda diplomacy of theorist that cannot be implemented. Jeevan Pundaman must understand the current political situation of Sri Lanka where Ranil holding leadership without the mandate of the PEOPLE has no power to adjust or launch any constitutional matters on his own, as he has no authority to do that, the country is still under patriotic Rajapaksas who were voted by the very people with almost two-third majority, Ranil is figurehead working under US COMMAND that instigated violence against Rajapaksas to oust from the Presidency illegally.

13A is an amendment agreed upon with past leaders of Sri Lanka to sign with ERRONEOUS clauses that are, right now, to be nullified to protect the United Sri Lanka concept. They are no more valid to talk about. Sri Lanka unfortunately has some multi-language issues and anyway, no more any ETHNIC issues prevailing here, this must be understood by every Fellow CITIZEN of Sri Lanka.
