The All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association (ACBOA) has decided to reduce the price of a 450g loaf of bread and other bakery items by Rs. 10 with effect from midnight today.

The association said the decision was made after agreeing to provide eggs at Rs. 35 each for bakery production. But the retail prices of butter, margarine, yeast and wheat flour have not been reduced, they said.

At least 90 percent of the bakeries in the country used to sell a 450-gram loaf of bread for Rs. 150 and Rs. 160. Therefore, the association has requested the bakery owners to reduce the selling price of all bakery products by Rs. 10 from tonight. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

But still here in Kompannaveediya the bakeries didn't reduce the prices. (21 June 2021).

Public cannot be duped by these reductions but the reality of the reduction whether bankeries are complying to the correct weight of 450kg is given otherwise it nullifies the reduction. My question is whether there are Inspectors carrying weighing scales to check whether the weight is correct.? And how frequent does this happen. All these officials who are members of the flying squad appear once their pictures are highlighted by the Media (all drama) and thereafter go into oblivion until the public make a hue and a cry once again what is happening to the so called pound of bread. Talking of short eats a reduction will take place whilst the quality will be disastrous with poor quality fillings. Oh my goodness! ! what a dishonest set of businessmen.

Only few bakeries are under this association, majority of bakeries based their price of products on total cost.
