Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa has confirmed that the police have opened fire in Rambukkana after a group of protestors and police clashed in an attempt to disperse the protestors.
Kegalle Hospital sources said that at least one person has been killed and over 10 injured from gunshot injuries. Two protestors are critical and are undergoing surgery.
SSP Nihal said that the protestors had attempted to set fire on a bouser and a three wheeler and the police had later fired tear gas to disperse the crowds. However the protestors had then hurled stones at the policemen afterwhich the police opened fire.

If Protestors had no firearms, what was the necessity to open fire at protestors?

The protestors must listen to police. Political elements behind the protestors cause police to take action. Galle Face protest had good rapport between police
Shooting is not an excuse Tuesday, 19 April 2022 10:18 PM
Dickie Bird remember even the police personnel's brothers, sisters and children are also facing the same problems and these youths are protesting day and nights in sun and rain to realise the difficulties faced by the people. Do you know none of these ministers, relatives and their stooges don't face these day to day problems faced by the common masses.

While understanding the utter frustrations of the public, protesters also must know to act responsibly. Trying to set fire to a bowser of fuel is not the wisest thing to do, is it now!! Police too had to do their duty in preventing a huge disaster.

What a Shame for the Police to open fire on Un Armed protesters, exercising basic Human Rights. Disgraceful

This will compel the protestors too to carry and use locally made stuff that can be hurled at the forces

Gota’s men massacred more than 100,000 in Mullivaykkaal in 2009. They did not even throw a stone at them.
