Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today said he has informed the relevant authorities to take any measure and action to put an end to animal cruelty.
In a tweet, Mr.Rajapaksa said he was shocked to hear of the recent incidents reported from around Sri Lanka on the horrific displays of cruelty to animals.
“The most recent incident is the killing of dogs in Nikaweratiya. I have informed authorities to take any measure and action in order to put an end to these atrocities,” he said.

Government should pass legislation to make animal cruelty a serious offence and mandotary jail sentence (because animals are defenceless).
