While slamming the Health authorities for relaxing restrictions amid a Omicron threat, the Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) today said they doubt whether restrictions were eased under the advise of health experts.
PHIU made these remarks in reference to the updated guidelines issued by Director General of Health Services yesterday where certain restrictions were eased while keeping other restrictions unchanged.
PHIU Head Upul Rohana said it was baffling that on what grounds the Health authorities had eased those restrictions.
“The world is currently embroiled in a critical situation in terms of the threat posed by the Omicron variant. Sri Lanka too is not out of the woods yet as far as Omicron is concerned. The COVID situation is not still at a controlled level in Sri Lanka ,” he pointed out.
“Besides, it is also a concern that people hardly follow health guidelines especially since the festive season is just around the corner,” he added.
Against this backdrop, the PHIU Head said it is in fact doubtful whether the restrictions were relaxed based on COVID statistics or according to the whims and fancies of any 'hidden force'. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

This is very correct . WHAT THE GOVT WANTS IS TO GET EXECISE TARIFFS TO BE INCREASED BY ALLOWING SALE OF LIQUOR AS THEY ALLOWED LIQUOR FOR WEDDINGS AND EASING PUBLIC GATHERING INCLUDING TO PERMIT SALE OF LIQUOR ON CHRISTMAS DAY AS PROPOSED BY TOURISM MINISTER.
