The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who are investigating the death of billionaire businessman Onesh Subasinghe who was found dead in a serviced apartment in Jakarta recently revealed that the businessman had been threatened with death on several occasions in Sri Lanka allegedly by his Brazilian wife.

Earlier, the IGP has instructed the Director CID to launch a probe into the death of the Managing Director of OPEX Holdings and billionaire businessman Subasinghe based on the possibility that the plot to murder the businessman may have been planned in Sri Lanka, even though it was executed in Indonesia.

Accordingly, the CID has gathered crucial findings into the death in addition to the ongoing investigations by the Indonesian law enforcement authorities.

Sources said that CID officers had visited Subasinghe's residence in Colombo and recorded several statements from the domestic staff at the residence. It was reported that the CID had obtained fingerprint samples and sent them for testing. The officers had also obtained several items from the house for forensic analysis.

During the questioning of the domestic staff at the residence, the investigators had been told that there had been several disputes between Onesh and his Brazilian wife.

They reportedly informed the officers that Onesh’s wife had threatened him with death on those occasions. She had reportedly tried to take the daughter and travel to Brazil on many occasions. However, Onesh’s had reportedly objected to those attempts.

Subasinghe was on vacation in Jakarta with his Brazilian wife Rosa, and her assistant who is also a Brazilian woman and their 4-year-old daughter. Due to his secretary being unable to contact Subasinghe on 2nd February, his family had inquired from the service apartment management after which the staff had entered the apartment and found his body.

On February 2, following his death, his wife Rosa and the other woman had left the apartment along with Onesh’s daughter and all their belongings. The duo were seen on CCTV putting up the 'do not disturb' sign on the door.

It was reported that Subasinghe’s wife and her assistant had fled Indonesia and headed to Doha, taking with them Onesh’s four-year-old daughter from where they had flown to São Paulo, Brazil.

Sources said that CID would seek INTERPOL assistance to arrest Subasinghe's wife and her assistant.

CID officers are likely to travel to Jakarta next week to conduct investigations along with the assistance of the Interpol and Indonesian Police.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Domestic abuse is not limited to a man abusing a woman. This case is an example of how men too endure abuse from a woman. Men internalize it so we don't hear of it as much as women being abused by men. May his family have healing and justice.

Are we sending our CID to corrupt the Indonesian police? If I was the Indonesian Consular General, I would request INTEPOL to Red warrant the entire CID - Criminal Inspiring Department.

Who will look after the child of the billionaire if mother arrested Friday, 17 February 2023 03:22 AM

CID so big wanting to arrest the wife. How about the child, who will look after the child if the mother is arrested? Will the deceased parents come forward, asking for the child to be brought back, as it is the child who is now going to inherit the billionaire money.

Good eye opener for all married and unmarried men. Death threats made by women must not be dusted off but taken seriously. He could have separated from wife reported the marital issues to court and sought custody of the daughter. After all he was living in his country

I am a private investigator based in Canada and let me tell couple of things , South American women are of loose morals and capable of any thing bad, generally speaking South Americans have “ crime” written on their DNA. Focusing on Indonesia which is supposed to be a Muslim religious country but in reality no country has the high proportion of violent gangs like Indonesia. Hiring a hitman in Indonesia is as easy as buying a cup of coffee. Google for “Indonesian gangs” would give you a picture of the numerous and powerful dangerous gangs in the Muslim country where the police have totally failed .

It appears Onesh was facing domestic abuse for a while and obviously not reported it publicly, until the CID interviewed the domestics. I think there are so many questions to be answered 1. Why did the Wife have a Brazilian Assistant, was she officially on the Board/s in any of the businesses he owned, why was he putting up with all the abuse, was his family aware of the abuse and what support was he given, why didn't Onesh divorce his wife and send her back to Brazil, after all Sri Lanka does not have the 50/50 divorce settlement as most other countries have, it is said Onesh's child was it from another marriage or was the Brazilian wife the mother. Last but not least, why would they go as a married couple for a holiday overseas without sorting out their personal issues and marriage status after his wife threatening to kill him several times earlier. No extradition order means slim hope of JUSTICE being served. I hope the woman does NOT get a RED Cent of his fortune/Wealth.

Shun..... you sound as if you are describing Sri Lanka.

    Concerned Friday, 17 February 2023 11:40 AM

We don't know her side of the story, do we? "Sri Lankan" millionaire husband must have expected obedience/endurance etc from his foreign wife, especially because he's rich, like the way they expect from women in Sri Lanka to be the husband's slave, no matter what the husband does!! Eye opener for all Sri Lankan men indeed.
