A person who had sent women to work in Dubai and illegally took them to Oman was arrested at Katunayake Airport this morning (19), Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry said.
The minister advised Public Security Minister Tiran Alas to tighten up the operations that are in force to arrest the people involved in human trafficking and human smuggling, who are illegally sending people abroad contrary to Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLBFE) regulations.
It was decided to conduct raids across the island.
The SLBFE had taken action to obtain a travel ban against the person who took the women to work in Oman.
Accordingly, the suspect was arrested at the Katunayake Airport this morning when he landed at the airport from Abu Dhabi and was handed over to the Katunayake Police.
The suspect was a 44-year-old foreign employment agency owner.
The investigating officers of the SLBFE took into custody of the suspect at the airport with the assistance of the Katunayake Police and later produced the suspect to the court.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is also conducting another investigation to file human trafficking charges against this person. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Why are we disrupting a mutually beneficial activity to both the trafficker and the slave owner. The victim most likely get 3 meals a day and other attention

I wonder if you would say these same words if the victim was member of your own family.

Under the current situation with 'jada paraya' government, people are fleeing without confirmed work. Once get there hoping for the best. 'Work for Food without pay' still a better living than eating beetle leaves in SL and taking shit from the government.

Some officials in SLBFE, Immigration, Airline staff, Agents, Sri Lankan embassy staff all involved in this racket. You should select and employ real gentleman for middle Eastern missions who got a heart and mind understand the plight if innocent people. CID should get involved and find all people in this racket and punish them. Really feel sorry for this innocent people.

Newsfirst.lk is reporting that the SL Embassy in Oman is engaged in exploiting our women. Sadly we have a 330,000 security apparatus costing RS 569 billion ( about the same as education and heath budget allocations combined ) but can’t provide security to our people’s but only engage in subjugation
