Necessary decisions will be made after evaluating the recommendations of WHO and steps taken by other countries to face the new COVID variant, Omicron, the Health Ministry said.

Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath told media briefing today that the fresh decisions would be made if only there is any necessity to do so.

“A special meeting of the Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases was convened today to review the current scenario in terms of the challenges posed by the Omicron,” he said.

"Accordingly, the Committee will put forward relevant recommendations and the decisions would be made accordingly," he underlined.

However, Dr Herath said the changes to current decisions would materialise solely depending on the situation in the country.

Moreover, he urged people to strictly follow health rules in order to protect ourselves from Omicron or whatever COVID-19 throws at us. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

This is what I was claiming since the break of this pandemic in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka health professionals lack professionalism. They are just parrots. For a start elect a health professional to head the COVID-19 task force.

With your big mouth why don't you come down here and show how parrots should work

    A Wednesday, 08 December 2021 11:55 PM

Why when Passengers from England can come ? They have same Variant. Why South Africa ? Zero Hospitalisation, no deaths thus variant is mild don't blow your horn for nothing.

Pfizer has stated that three (3) dose of its vaccine is effective against the Omicron variant. Now Sri Lanka needs to vaccinate the whole population as not citizen (publicly) has got three doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Start doing it now. The WHO whose chief is on Chinese payroll says other vaccine "too" may be effective. No other vaccine vendor has made any comments regarding the Omicron variant . it seems only vaccine produced using the mRNA platform is effective.
