The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is hopeful that the Norochcholai coal power plant that got tripped during the countrywide blackout last Friday can be restored today, a spokesman said.
CEB spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardane told Daily Mirror coal-fired power could be added to the national grid most probably today. The CEB has started power cuts in the evening in selected areas in a phased-out manner till the Norochcholai plant is restored.
“Once restored, there won’t be any need for power cuts,” he said.
Sri Lanka experienced a blackout last Friday. Investigations are in progress at the moment to determine whether it is an act of sabotage. Power disruption took place at a time when the CEB’s Engineers’ Union had launched a work-to-rule campaign. (Kelum Bandara)
