The 6.8 magnitude earthquake that had occurred in the Indian Ocean has no threat to Sri Lanka, the National Tsunami Early Warning Centre (NTEWC) said.
They said the earthquake occurred deep in the South of Sumatra today at 7.07 p.m.
However, the NTEWC said that there is no threat to Sri Lanka at present.
Therefore, the coastal areas of Sri Lanka are declared safe.
The public is further informed that this message is announced in consultation with the relevant national and international agencies. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
