Referring to his recent statement made in Parliament that he would resign from his ministerial role if the necessary funds for purchasing medicines are not received, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said he would not quit as relevant funds have been allocated.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Rambukwella said,” We had a meeting with the officials of the Treasury on the day itself I made this statement in Parliament where the funds to procure drugs and other critical medical equipment were guaranteed.”

"As adequate funds have been allocated, there is no need for me to resign,” he stressed.

However, the Minister said some media had misinterpreted what he had said in Parliament. “What I said was if funds are not received, hanging on to positions is not worth,” he stated.

When inquired about the drug shortage, he said about 100 drugs are not available at present; however, plans are afoot to address the shortage of drugs with the release of necessary funds. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Each pack of medicine means less fuel at the petrol sheds. Ranil will not allow this for fear of new uprisings. In order to maintain his power, he prefers to let people die for lack of medication.

When did a Sri Lankan politician ever resign? why would they? Becoming a politician in Sri Lanka is the easiest way to become super wealthy in a short space of time. One would be truly foolish to resign.

I am sure that he was planning to resign if the funds are not allocated . In such situations he cannot purchase drugs to earn commission, so he has to look for a sector where money is allocated in order to maintain his lifestyle.

Banana Rum Sands Wednesday, 28 June 2023 07:05 PM

Dear Minister! People do not understand the services you have rendered for this country. You have received the maximum amount of commissions from black-listed pharmaceutical companies which will help the economy. You have murdered a lot of patients with substandard drugs you purchased from black-listed drug companies thereby reducing the population of this over-crowded country. Do NOT resign; Resign to your fate.
