No decision yet on UNP’s presidential candidate: Kabir Hashim

The United National Party (UNP) has still not decided on its candidate for the presidency, Party Chairman Kabir Hashim said today.

He said this in a post on his Facebook account in a response to a statement by his Cabinet colleague Mangala Samaraweera that the party would field Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the party's presidential candidate.

“Mr. Samaraweera was voicing his personal opinion when he spoke about fielding Mr. Premadasa as the candidate. However the party will have discussions soon to decide on the candidate,” Minister Hashim said.

He said the party would name the candidate at an appropriate time like the way it did at the presidential election in 2015 adding that the candidate would be a member of the UNP. “We will not have any outsider this time,” the minister said. (Yohan Perera)

"like the way it did at the presidential election in 2015 ". No way my friend. The time has come from the leader of the UNP to be the presidential candidate. It the UNP leader is unable to do so, he has to quit the leadership or sacked.
