No decision has been taken for an electricity tariff hike, as news articles circulating regarding cabinet approval are insufficient to cover the loss of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the authority to take the decision to announce any tariff hike on electricity should be given by the PUCSL. The cabinet minister cannot make announcements at their leisure.

"There is law and order in the country, and we should act according to that," he said.

He claimed that several media reports had reported that the Cabinet has approved an increase in the electricity tariffs in two steps, in January and June 2023.

This is a complete misrepresentation of the country's people. Ratnayake emphasized that the PUCSL had made no such decision or made any announcements regarding an increase in electricity tariffs. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Do not play around with the consumers as CEB inefficiency cannot be passed onto us.If India can supply electricity to the domestic consumer at INR 6.20 equivalent LKR 29/-per unit,we are unable to understand why CEB is incapable to reduce costs.Send a CEB team to India for cost feasibility training

An extreme HIKE on Electricity TARIFF has already been made by the Government. Upto 2030 no hike needed. The people are dying in vainly day by day without FOOD.

At present aren't we paying increased tariffs on electricity amidst the strong opposition by temples, several sectors of industry etc. and the consumers who are facing hardships with the runaway inflation. Now what are you talking of once again increasing the tariffs. Right throughout, the state owned organizations have not been prudently managed with wastage, overstaffing, with lackeys of politicians squandering of funds resulting in consumers having to face the brunt of everything with increased tariffs. No one will disagree with a genuine and reasonable tariff increase if the CEB is well managed by cutting unnecessary expenditure like high salaries which have distorted the salary structure which usually has to be a percentage of the overhead costs/profits.

This moron is just a minion in this game. The government will heavily increase the tariffs irrespective of what he says.
