While commenting on the mispronounciation of a key lyric while singing the National Anthem at the opening ceremony of the 2023 LPL, Vedda Chief Uruwarige Wannilaththo said the distortion of the national anthem was done a long time ago.
Addressing the media, he said if there is an identity for a country or any nationality, then it should be protected.
"But there is no authority for anyone to change its melody or sound. The higher authorities in the country should take care of these changes. Every nationality must be treated with equal rights.
:If anyone is making changes to any entity of the country, that should be done thinking three times before making such changes," Wannilaththo said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Like in Australia where the aborigines participate at the opening cermonies of major events dressed in their usual attire it is appropriate that the Veddhas of Sri Lanka are invited to sing the national anthem of Sri Lanka Namo Namo Matha at all opening ceremonies to prevent any further controversy in the future.
