National Council introduced not with genuine intentions: AKD

The national council was not brought in with genuine intention to find solution to the economic crisis but to convince international comunity that all factions were working in tandem, National People's Power MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

He told Parliament that several organisations have made allegations at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva this time against the government over fraud and corruption and saying that there was no recognition for this government and that there was no mandate for the President.

"The government is now trying to alleviate such pressure by setting up a national council and showing international organisations that the government is working in tandem with all political parties. It is of no use joining such a council. So, we will not join it," he said.

The MP said this national council was in contrary to the national council which was originally proposed by the Opposition.

"The national council proposed by the opposition called for an interim government. However, no such government is established. It was proposed to appoint key positions including the Prime Minister, Cabinet with the agreement of the political party leaders in the national council. However, all those positions have already been filled," he said.

The MP also said even though the government requests the opposition to join the national council, it has refused to provide chairmanship of the COPE and COPA to the Opposition.

He said the government has also refused to present the agreement signed with the IMF Staff in Parliament despite repeated requests by the opposition.

Seems unfortunately the only real opposition the JVP. Sajith/SJB seems to have the lulled about all-party government to agree with the government top-official like the CB Governor. It is sad our country has too many MP who is too mentally too weak to keep standing up for what is good. And also then want to muffle the voices of the youth, who want a better future for themselves than the doldrums created by the attitudes of the middle class. I hope the youth push out by any means those even my age, in my early forties and get this country in a better way for themselves. As the majority of the public are unwilling and happy to just feed at the trough of inefficiency and wasteful tradition.

What is the solution expected from this council which will consist of the same uneducated people as parliament? This council apart from speaker, PM and a couple more MP's should comprise of all professions available in the country and not unemployable people.
