The use of modern drone technology can be used for the development of the agriculture sector in the country, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
While attending an event on a drone pilot training programme launched by the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), he said the latest technology in drone operation should be used to save time, reduce waste in the agriculture sector and increase production.
"This is what other countries are currently using for their improvements. Unfortunately, it is only now that our country is getting used to this technology," Minister Premajayantha said.
"No such programmes on drone training has ever been conducted in Sri Lanka. After this training, these efforts can be used for the cultivation of acres of fields, such as spraying pesticides. The use of drone technology will help reduce manpower and inefficiency," the Minister further said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

It will take three months after other countries have started using this for you to make a Statement. Thereafter another one year to implement it.

Why not use SLAF pilots for this purpose. Like SL Army, SLAF too don't have much scope post war, instead they can be utilized for Sri Lankan food security. An air marshall can be appointed to manage this programme. Eventually Sri Lankan defense forces can contribute significantly for food security.

This minister is driven by whims and fancies of his own and current RW administration. Neither this fellow admires rich traditional and conventional practices that our farmer community believe of and neither he is patriotic nor visionary thinker
