The minimum bus fare will be increased by Rs. 3 from January 5, Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.
The decision was announced following a discussion with the private bus owners at the Ministry.
Accordingly, the minimum bus fare, which was at Rs.14 will be increased to Rs. 17 with a percentage of 17.44, the Minister said.
Private bus owners were briefed by the State Minister on the need for a revision of private bus fares in line with the current rise in fuel prices as well as bus spare parts prices.
At the meeting, Transport Ministry Secretary Monty Ranatunga, National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman Shashi Welgama, the Public Private Bus Owners' Association President Sampath Ranasinghe, and Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association President Gemunu Wijeratne were present at the meeting. It is a joke. If I am a bus operators I will reject it. The minimum fare should be Rs.25 considering the increase in fuel prices, spare parts, tyres and finally the bus crews need to put on the table.

Fare increase is not in line with the fuel price increase, possible that the rates were worked to compensate for the next increase in January!

Bus fares have been increased several times now but has the service improved? No tickets are issued, no balance is given by the conductor, 99% of the conductors and drivers wear extremely unclean clothes and masks, wastes time at each and every bus stop, plays loud and lousy music irrespective of the time of the day, uses bad language on passengers, drives at breakneck speed putting the lives of all passengers in danger, no patience with passengers getting off the bus but stops at all odd places for people to get in, the list is endless.. authorities please make sure that they meet at least some standard while increasing the fares, it is not a favour but a requirement.

It should have been Rs 16 or Rs 18 do you have brain will the conductor return Rs 3 when you give Rs20 for the Rs17 tickets even now we find difficulty in getting the correct balance money from the conductor

Hi Hitler do you anticipate that SLR 3/- will be ever returned. Whom are you fooling if not your own self. Admit the fact that you are a failure and confirm minimum fare as SLR20/-

Dilum Failed. He cannot control speeding buses but can increase the rates.
