The Kegalle Divisional Crime Bureau has arrested a suspect in connection with hijacking a number of vehicles which were initially reserved for hiring after intoxicating drivers.
Police launched a probe in connection with the hijacking of a Wagon R vehicle worth more than Rs. 4 million.
The 33-year old suspect from Kiriella was arrested on Sunday following the investigations.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had booked vehicles with chauffeurs for hire, online.
Then he robbed the vehicle after intoxicating the drivers with various beverages.
It was revealed that the suspect used the internet to sell the stolen vehicles at a cheap price.
Applying this malicious method, he had stolen a car and a three-wheeler from Ja-Ela and Seeduwa areas respectively and sold them.
The Wagon R was also found by the police after it was sold to a person in Nivithigala.
The suspect was handed over to the Mawanella Police.( Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
