Meanwhile the survey has also revealed that 76.6% of the youth population, and 71.9% of the elderly population believe that rulers have to be responsible for the country’s economic downturn while 32.4% of the youth and 28% of the elderly believes that COVID-19 pandemic had contributed to the economic down turn. Now these politicians do not care about anything but to save their power ..in order to do this they have to sell our national properties to some foreign companies to get seven billion dollars they needed....this is what our politicians have done to our country within last 70 years and this was more deteriorated with MR and co ... because they wasted a lot of our money with some mega unsustainable projects ..some projects he did was utter failure and we are still paying the price ..I wonder why our academics; economists and our experts have been sleeping for all those years and why no one had bravery and courage to challenge MR and co when he was doing all this to this nation...I can't believe this ...till they have looted and destroyed this country our community leaders and intellectuals have been sleeping...let us assume that MR is not an expert on this and yet why our civil servants did not question ? Why didn't they tell him what he was doing was wrong...this country went down but

India and China competing for our national assets but Indian intentions are more than the national assets.

Sam Pillai Wednesday, 14 December 2022 11:45 PM

The response from people is predictable given the majority of young people look to state owned enterprises for jobs and thereby bloating the numbers. A quick survey by a competent team of the hundreds of SOEs will help identify those that should be privatized.

    ACA Thursday, 15 December 2022 12:54 AM

Please tell us the measurements of national assets and national liabilities?

    Mandayan Thursday, 15 December 2022 01:25 AM

Already sold; done and dusted! The sellers got the money in offshore accounts and the buyers moved in.

    Chathura Thursday, 15 December 2022 01:50 AM

Do a survey on selling national liabilities too. That would include operations like Sri Lankan Airlines, CEB and a host of others.

    Zak Thursday, 15 December 2022 02:56 AM

Good luck my fellow Sri Lankans living in SL with these socialist values ! You will live in misery for the next 4 generations

    Bandu Thursday, 15 December 2022 04:14 AM

This is not a very smart survey. Shows how backward the country is. Question should be are you willing to pay for loss making, corrupt government entities. If the answer is yes, great, increase the taxes. I suspect the answer will be no.

Robin Banks Thursday, 15 December 2022 04:48 AM

Who cares about the majority? All we politicians want is to be in power at any cost even if future generations have to slave for foreign entities. Foreign entities whose only interest is to make massive profits and deposit them in off-shore tax heavens. We have to imprison these old criminals and their relatives and recoup all the stolen funds.

Ed Rowlands Thursday, 15 December 2022 05:06 AM

People do not understand that selling an asset does not mean that it is taken away. A company would buy an ongoing business that when administered efficiently will provide a profit to the owners. The company will invest in improving the infrastructure and employ additional staff and pay taxes on the profits. The Government will hopefully use the sale proceeds to reduce debt. Would this be a win/win for the people of Sri Lanka?

    Hog Thursday, 15 December 2022 05:34 AM

So we are supposed to believe this so called survey carried out by this Socialist Scientists Association

    Jude Thursday, 15 December 2022 05:41 AM

We're running out of assets, but we've 225 donkeys for Free!! Yeah!!

    Poo Thursday, 15 December 2022 05:45 AM

Not even the handful of remaining socialist countries in the world do not practice such outdated socialist theories.

    Buddhist Thursday, 15 December 2022 06:52 AM

If the National Assets are not sold then people should agree to have one meal a day and to live without electricity, running water, and gas.

Cham SL Thursday, 15 December 2022 06:55 AM

Has anyone explained to those who have been surveyed what national assets are? Do these include national liabilities that are used by politicians to employ their friends, family and supporters, resulting in massive losses and corruption?

    William Thursday, 15 December 2022 07:35 AM

The only 'population' that wants national assets sold are 123 smart intelligent jokers. Am no mathematician so am unable to figure out the exact percentage.

    Athk69 Thursday, 15 December 2022 07:42 AM

What is the population size of the survey participants?

    Nimal Thursday, 15 December 2022 08:17 AM

Fact: Majority of Lankans are stupid.

    Sam Thursday, 15 December 2022 08:17 AM

Majority of Sri Lankans are having an easy life working for these entities. Majority of Sri Lankans voted for Rajapaksha and that didn't turn out so well did it. If we do the opposite of what the majority wants there is a good chance we will succeed in the future.

    Leonard Thursday, 15 December 2022 08:18 AM

This survey is intentionally or unintentionally misleading. What probably the majority are against is the sale of SOEs that presently don’t run at a loss. They would not object to the sale of those that do.

    Adwani Thursday, 15 December 2022 08:45 AM

Already some of the assets had been sold, now only the survey.

    Shihan Thursday, 15 December 2022 09:07 AM

Majority are I’ll advised unfortunately.. must understand these are burdens on their very own pockets

    S.H.Liyanage Thursday, 15 December 2022 09:15 AM

When private sector is running anything price is immediately increased when cost goes up or they stop purchasing or selling the item . The govt has to agree to increase the price . Most of the time they give substandard items

    Seqi Thursday, 15 December 2022 09:41 AM

Do the people interviewed know what an asset is. Do they know what a liability is. Do they understand what happens when an asset becomes a liability. The language of business finance is beyond the comprehension of 69% of those polled.

    Jef Thursday, 15 December 2022 10:15 AM

If continue the same same old ways country will not prosper government must take full responsibility for non performing sectors to minimize losses its a huge problem for non profitable any business or organisation to keep going while massive loses continues having assets its great having white elephants are dead weight

    Viranga Thursday, 15 December 2022 10:20 AM

The main reason for this is obvious. These parties are either not informed in the proper manner or incorrectly opinionated. If this is a such a crucial thing, why aren’t the government or schools taking any initiative to educate the young children using statistics to teach the importance of this subject....? Without giving the country’s population the opportunity to learn, you are expecting them to know the gravity of it. Mainly blaming the younger generation and the older generation for the failure of the country. Please start a program to bring the necessary awareness.

Covid 19 pandemic for all over the world , but still we recover soon with rest of the world. We need to promote tourism that will cater all, before we reintroduced the tourism the following to be considered for. Electricity shut down, fuel price, if the fuel prices will go down rest go down automatically. Finally thank you for your support.

Majority of Sri Lankans also want services for free and doing the bare minimum.

Don Juan Thursday, 15 December 2022 12:41 PM

What about at least SL Railways and Srilankan?

    Jayantha Thursday, 15 December 2022 01:29 PM

Fake serveys. I work with many sectors and no any legitimate organization or person has come and asked such a thing for a servey. Just misleading information. You cannot comeout of this situation unless the government joba are cut down by about 75percent. Also by getting rid of most of the loss making institutions. Also need to automate almost all possible services offered by the government.

Idiot agent called Jayantha Thursday, 15 December 2022 05:14 PM

@Jayantha, you must be an Indian agent to say that this survey is fake. It is common sense no people in any country want others to buy their national asserts. It shows you are not clever that is why you got yourself exposed as Indian agent. A clever foreign agent would not have challenged this survey and would still be operating under the name Jayantha. By now Indians would have realised that they have wasted their investment on an idiot.

    Gamma Thursday, 15 December 2022 06:01 PM

How can they recover the losses by selling these state institutions? I agree that the government should not undertake to do business. It is not their job. They should formulate the necessary laws to govern the country and see that the expenditure is done correctly. The only thing they should do is to curtail spending. They will collect the 7 Billion required for next year by selling these assets, then what are they going to do in the following year? After 3 or 4 years they will have to sell the whole country. So the best alternative is to get rid of all these 225 idiotss

    Punchi Thursday, 15 December 2022 08:23 PM

Funny situation we don’t want to sell our immovable assets to overseas buyers but we are OK with having ethnic and racial policies that has impoverished us and made us sell our movable ie our comely damsels overseas
