Emerging major clusters is inevitable irrespective of the vast vaccination drive in the country if people act in a manner conducive of spreading the disease, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath told Daily Mirror yesterday.
He said if people continued to ignore health practices, there is no other result other than getting back to the serious situation the country had a few months ago.
“In the case of vaccines, none of the them help prevent infection but build immunity inside human body and reduce complications and probability of dying from the virus,” he argued.
“Even if a country immunises 100 percent of its population, there could be major outbreaks if people do not adhere to guidelines,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Dr Herath said transmission of the virus can be reduced even sans vaccination if necessary health precautions are taken.
However, while stressing the importance vaccination due to vulnerable people, Dr Herath highlighted that the only way to prevent the spread of the virus is adhering to health practices.
Thus, he reiterated that despite the highest level of vaccination, there would definitely be major outbreaks if people continued to take guidelines for granted. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

He is sounding the alarm it seems for a lockdown again which will cripple the economy .If another lockdown takes place we will sink into abject poverty. His statements cannot be taken seriously as the motives need to be examined before public consumption. Is he trying to project himself or playing ball? The general public should use their common sense for the answer.

Don't these health chaps have any good new at all for us, ever? Every day they spit out doom for all and sundry, preaching 'bana' all the time and their excuse is people don't follow these guidelines while not following the very same guidelines themselves. We say to them 'up yours'!!!

Only thing these so called vaccines do is give a false sense of security to people who got them.I adviced a trishaw driver near my home how to follow proper health guide lines But he thought since he got the both jabs he was well protected.Now not only him but his whole family have come down with corona

It is not just only in Sri Lanka but all over the world despite the vaccines the Corona Virus keeps coming back. Why ? Because the scientifically clueless doctors are running the show.

Yes, As long as all Sri Lankans Or at least 80 percent people in the island and children age over 12 vaccinated , environment shouldn't be scary at all but Vaccination should be carry on until all vaccinated. If vaccinated people got infected they should be isolated seven days in their home.

Last time, before the outbreak, we had hundreds of protests by SJB and JVP and also by farmers and teachers. Now they have started again. So it is inevitable that we have a another big wave. Even people are behaving as if there is no covid.

Sri Lankan people seem to be quite ignorant and/or stupid. Criticizing the doctors and calling them doomsayers! The doctors needs to tell it as it is even if it is unpalatable to some. The majority of Sri Lankan’s seem to belong to the “kavung kana modaya” category. They want to hear only good news, even if it is fake, so that they can continue their hedonistic ways. If they think the doctors are only full of doom and gloom, that’s fine, let them continue to live carelessly. Who cares if they contract the virus and die. In a way a good thing to be rid of people like that.

Why can't people accept when a warning or advice is given?? Is it because of their pride and ego?? Why are some people so quick to insult Doctors, PHIs etc.. Listen to the advise and warnings given by health authorities and stop getting together, avoid gatherings.. it is the children of this country who suffer the most because of the stupidity of the adults..
