The Liberty Plaza Shopping Complex in Kollupitiya had been closed for the weekend after several persons were detected with the COVID-19, the area Medical Officer of Health (MOH) said.

According to the MOH, initially, several security officers were found infected with the virus while several other employees working in several shops were identified as COVID-19 infected following PCR tests.

The operators at the complex had closed down their shops till the first contacts were traced and were subject to PCR tests.

The health authorities had informed the shop owners that the shopping complex could be operational only after the first contacts of the infected had been sent for quarantine.

It was reported that at least 20 positive patients were reported within the shopping complex.

Meanwhile, the Liberty Plaza Management Council said that operations at the mall had returned to normal today after all the first contacts had been sent to quarantine.

A council member told Daily Mirror that the Liberty Plaza was shut during the weekend but had resumed operations from today after the entire premises had been disinfected.  (DSB)
