360 players to come under the hammer

The Lanka Premier League 2023 will reach new heights when it holds its first ever player auction tomorrow (June 14) at the Shangri La Hotel, Colombo.

Some of the top names in the cricketing world will come under the hammer at the LPL Auction.

A total of 360 players, both capped and uncapped, are registered to obtain a place to play in the 4th edition of the Lanka Premier League 2023, Sri Lanka’s top domestic T20 competition with an international flavor.

Among the registered players are 156 overseas players and 204 domestic players.

Auction Rounds
The Auction, which will start at 3 pm will have 51 rounds, focusing on multiple talent options, such as batters, all-rounders, fast and spin bowlers, and wicketkeepers, with different segments for each criterion, such as capped batters, uncapped batters, etc.

During the auction, a franchise will have to pick a minimum of 16 players, including four foreign players, as each franchise already has pre-signed two overseas players along with two Sri Lankan players.

Each franchise will also have to pick one under-21 Sri Lankan player at the auction, which is a mandatory requirement.

Auction Purse

In total, the auction will have a collective purse of US$ 2.5 million from all five franchise teams, while each franchise will bring in a sum of US$ 500,000.

The teams will have to ensure that they invest a minimum of 85 percent of the purse they bring into the auction to form their respective squads.

Auctioneer
Charu Sharma, who was part of the previous LPL player drafts, will be the auctioneer
of the Lanka Premier League Player Auction 2023.

The LPL player auctioneer With due respect for Mr Charu Sharma, I woud like to raise the point of the total cost incurred for Sri Lanka Cricket in employing Mr Sharma to be the Auctioneer. When Sri Lanka is struggling with foreign currency, whoze idea is to employ a foreigner, coud you not find a person capable of doing the job in Sri Lanka. I will await to hear the detais before making any comments.
