Two suspects were arrested with a haul of Kerala marijuana (Kerala Ganja) to the value of over Rs. 80 million while attempting to flee after dumping the contraband into the sea off Madhagal, Jaffna yesterday.
The Navy said the sailors attached to the Northern Naval Command spotted a suspicious dinghy during a marine patrol in the seas off Madhagal where they noticed the persons on board were attempting to escape after dumping the consignment weighing about 275kg into the sea.
The Navy believes the contraband was suspected to have been brought from India.
The 25 and 37 old suspects from the Madhagal area were handed over to the Ilavalai Police along with the contraband for further action. (Romesh Madushanka)
