Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara today accused the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Chairman, Janaka Rathnayaka for providing electricity to the hotels and apartments at a lower rate.
"We will reveal details on it soon," the minister said in Parliament.
"The PUCSL Chairman is creating issues as his misdeeds are exposed," the Minister added.
The Minister said this in response to Chief Opposition Whip Lakhman Kiriella who questioned as to why the minister is harping on a power tariff hike while the PUCSL Chairman has ruled it out.
The Minister was also engaged in a cross talk with MP Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero and questioned as to why the Thero is against paying Adani Group Rs. 40 per unit of renewable energy while asking the government to pay Rs. 60 for others.
"The Minister says that there is a renewable energy mafia in Sri Lanka. There is no such mafia," the Thero said.(Yohan Perera)

Subject Minister should do a night trip around the Colombo City and see for himself the level of wastage of power in the Havelock City premises and some commercial establishments. Nobody cares for austerity measures and Country continues to spend in foreign currency for the coal and oil imports. Increase the tariff by 500pct for such premises and spare the poor.

Why cannot the government sack the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Chairman, Janaka Rathnayaka? Who appointed him? Who is backing him up? How can this man be more powerful than the Minister and the Government?

You Minister we do not need your details. Hotels have a special rate. You seem to have just arrived from Mars. No wonder the parliament stinks
Who is this Janaka Ratnayake? Wednesday, 07 December 2022 10:43 PM
Does this chairman has authority to decide the rates to be charged to different consumers? What is his role in the PUCSL? Do the Chairman and the members of CEB take instruction from this man? Why is this man throwing about his weight in the running of the Public sector? The Prime minister should answer these questions.
