The Milk Powder Importers’ Association has decided to increase the price of imported milk powder with effect from today, Association Spokesperson Ashoka Bandara said.
He told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken due to the increase in prices in the world market during the past eight weeks.
Accordingly, the price of a 1 kg packet of imported milk powder, which was at Rs. 1,195, will be increased by Rs. 150, and the new selling price will be Rs. 1,345. The 400g packet, which was at Rs. 480, will be increased by Rs. 60, and the new selling price will be Rs. 540, Mr. Bandara said.
The milk powder increase in the international market cannot be controled by our government or by our association. Therefore, we have to purchase our stocks at the available international market price, he said.
If we receive any concessions from the milk powder auctions, that relief will be directly given to our customers, Mr. Bandara added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Keep your milk powder till it rots. Consuming fresh milk is very much healthier.
