If the Health Minister does not take action to revoke health workers' pay cut completely within a week, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said they would resort to serious trade union action, GMOA General Committee Member Dr. Prasad Kolabage said.

Addressing the media, he said the health services were disrupted during the fuel and gas crisis in the country and the government had decided to impose pay cut of health workers.

Following discussion with the Health Minister and he was informed about this, he assured to solve the issues within a week and to pay the salaries which were already deducted from the health service workers.

However, if the salary deduction is not removed, the GMOA central committee has decided to resort to serious trade union action after next week. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Selfish GMOA, curse of free education. Disgraceful lot to the nation

Please stop free education for the Medical Faculty for MBBS (MF-MBBS) courses, The authorities should make MF-MBBS courses function under this method, (less strain on economy) 1. Only through a "SPECIAL LOAN" (No Interest) the tenure of course, repayable on completion 2. 15 years of employment Bond to Department of health, Sri Lanka! 3. Facilitate, Peoples Bank/Bank of Ceylon loans to the GCE (A/L) entrants, before entry to MC! 4. 5% loan deducted during internship and balance 95% of loan, at 10% yearly thereafter. 5. Bank Loan guaranteed by state, on being qualified to MF-MBBS courses entry!

Agree with above. SELFISH GMOA. How many people don’t have jobs and are suffering without food. These hospital staff are always demanding. What about the people who can’t demand anything.

But still they have their own difficulties which the general public is not aware, so please co-operate with them, since poor has no means to go for private medical care.
